The client:

Coastal Nets offer a comprehensive range of fishing and sporting nets, fishing equipment and all types of rope and twine from their property in Bridport, Dorset.

What we did:

Following our audit of data provided by West Dorset District Council and the Valuation Office Agency, we identified an opportunity to reduce their business rates liability.

"Very quick and efficient"

After conducting further research into the company and analysing their usage of their property we were satisfied there was a case worth advancing with the local authority.

Upon instruction, we built a comprehensive case detailing how Coastal Nets were eligible for a reduction to their liability following satisfaction of principles laid out in Government Guidance.

The result:

Our application was successful, however, the reduction had only been backdated to the start of the financial year. Using our in depth knowledge of the relevant legislation dictating how far back local authorities can backdate, we challenged this decision and asked for the reduction to be backdated a further two years.

This was successful and increased the saving almost fivefold.

Ultimately, Coastal Nets were left with a refund of over £23,000 and significantly reduced rates moving forward.

What our client had to say:

"Very quick and efficient. Surprisingly easy - almost didnt go with it as thought it might be a time waster - ended up with a 23k rebate. Whats not to like"
